Naming The Village Wisdom

I recently finished reading the epic fantasy series “The Wheel of Time” by Robert Jordan. For those of you unfamiliar, this is a fourteen book series; each book averaging nine hundred pages. It took me fourteen months to read it (starting at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020). I’m proud of this feat and am grateful to have had an amazing companion through the pandemic.

In grade school I was in the lowest reading level group in my class. I’ve never been a fast reader and to have completed this series is a big deal to me. When my partner read it years back, I thought, “I could never read that. It would take me forever.” Forever turned out to be fourteen months and a much easier task than I’d thought. A reminder to never say never. We often surprise ourselves with what we can accomplish when we take one step at a time- or in this case one page at a time.

Anyway…

In “The Wheel of Time” there is a healer assigned to each village, a woman studied in herbs and other healing arts to care for her community. She is called the village wisdom. I fell in love with this idea and decided that if I existed as a character in the story that I would like to be a village wisdom (I’d also like to wield the One Power, but explaining that goes beyond the scope of this short post). And so The Village Wisdom was born. In addition to the sentiment behind The Village Wisdom name, I love that it blends my two passions: creative fantasy writing and the healing arts.

With my Sun, Mercury, Vesta and Chiron in the sign of Gemini, it’s difficult for me to choose between two things. For the past seven years I’ve felt pulled by these two passions, both of which feel like natural gifts and a soul urge. Though this website will primarily focus on healing through yoga, astrology and herbal medicine, I will also have this blog, where, here and there, I may deliver pieces of my creative writing.

Stories are healing. Words are healing. I offer a range of healing practices through The Village Wisdom, some are free, some are donation based and some require payment. I hope this place offers you a home for healing, wisdom and love however you need it.
